Summary
The CMD-CIM11 system, implemented in Burkina Faso, is a digital solution designed to improve the registration and certification of causes of death in accordance with WHO ICD-11. It enables doctors to certify deaths directly in healthcare establishments, thus ensuring standardized coding of medical causes of death. The main objective is to enhance the quality of mortality data, which feeds vital statistics systems and national health databases, thus contributing to better public health decisions thanks to reliable mortality statistics. The solution is an on-site medical certification application, accessible in regional health structures, and includes CSV import/export functionalities as well as APIs. Developed with technical support from HISP Oslo, HISP Togo and the WHO, CMD-CIM11 aims to digitize death certification, covering the general population, urban and rural areas, as well as healthcare professionals.
