Summary
The project is based on the Mobile Health Wallet, which allows women to receive and gradually set aside small amounts of money to cover the costs of prenatal care, childbirth, and postnatal care, and to use the funds to pay for health services from CSB healthcare providers and partner referral hospitals, integrated into a digital system. This wallet is accessible via a SIM card that they keep in a key ring, for example. If they do not have a phone, they can use a simple telephone located in health centers or with field agents.

Challenges
Informal payments by certain healthcare workers: follow-up with beneficiaries revealed requests for informal cash payments, even though the women had sufficient savings in their wallets. Unlike patients who do not use wallets, who do not always distinguish between official fees and informal payments, SafeMom users are better able to detect inconsistencies.
Recommendations
Mitigation measures: strengthening community communication on savings and full payment with the portfolio; reporting the case and evidence to the Department of Health through the chain of command; taking disciplinary action.
