Summary
Malawi faces challenges in disease tracking due to the absence of a municipal address system, particularly in urban slums. To address this issue, ePAL, a low-cost geolocation digital health tool, has been developed. This tool enables health workers and researchers to remotely capture GPS coordinates of disease hotspots with an accuracy of within 2 meters, eliminating the need for home visits. Additionally, ePAL allows for the capture of images of nearby landmarks, enhancing the accuracy of data collection and facilitating follow-ups. The system is also beneficial for both public and private organizations, such as banks, by offering a reliable alternative to traditional, error-prone paper maps, thus improving location tracking capabilities. The primary health focus areas include communicable diseases.
