Summary
The Electronic Primary Health Care (ePHC) project, initiated by the Department of Health Services in Nepal, aims to digitize health management information systems (HMIS) by replacing traditional paper-based registers with digital tools. This transition enhances the delivery of patient-centered care at the primary health care level.
With ePHC, health workers can effectively manage individual patient records, document consultations, track immunizations, monitor maternal and child health, and manage family planning services, among other essential health services. The system supports longitudinal health records, enabling a comprehensive view of a patient's health history, treatments, and follow-up visits.
ePHC integrates with existing systems like DHIS2 to minimize duplicate data entry, improve data quality, and facilitate timely reporting and evidence-based decision-making. By adhering to national health information standards, it promotes secure information exchange among health facilities and other health information systems.
The project focuses on enhancing service delivery at health posts, basic health service centers, and other primary healthcare facilities, thereby improving the availability and continuity of patient information. Ultimately, ePHC aspires to make health services more efficient, enhance patient care quality, and foster a robust, integrated digital health ecosystem.
The goal is to create an interoperable ePHC system that digitizes HMIS registers, enables real-time management of patient records, strengthens reporting and data exchange, and ensures a sustainable, resilient health system for the general population.
