Summary
Nigeria is grappling with vaccine distribution challenges due to its large population and inadequate infrastructure. In August 2021, the country received 4.2 million doses of Moderna vaccines from the US, necessitating storage temperatures between -15°C and -25°C. To ensure proper handling, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency collaborated with Gricd Integrated Services to implement the MOTE device and enterprise software for real-time temperature monitoring during storage and transport. This system notifies stakeholders of any temperature fluctuations, preventing waste and preserving vaccine effectiveness. By September 13, 2021, over 1.4 million individuals had received their first vaccine dose without any reported ineffectiveness, demonstrating the success of this monitoring strategy in improving vaccine access and safety. The health focus areas include communicable diseases, vaccination/immunization, health promotion, and others.
