Summary
Digital health technologies are increasingly becoming common in low-income countries, yet their integration with health system priorities often falls short. To enhance primary health care performance and advance universal health coverage, Burkina Faso has launched a pilot project called the ‘Minimal Digital Ecosystem’ (MDE), which aims to consolidate eight digital health tools in two health districts. This initiative employs a co-creation approach, engaging the Ministry of Health, international NGOs, donors, and researchers in its development and implementation. Despite facing significant challenges, the MDE represents a promising opportunity to improve data availability for decision-making, thereby enhancing the efficiency and quality of primary health care delivery. The focus is on specific health areas and targeting a defined population to maximize impact.
