Summary
The Global Healthsites Mapping Project, launched in 2016 in response to the Ebola outbreak, aims to establish a baseline of health facility data using OpenStreetMap. Funded by the FCDO and part of the Digital Public Good Alliance, the project promotes collaboration among various stakeholders to enhance and sustain health data. Recently, it has concentrated on mapping health facilities in the Medical District of Saint-Louis, Senegal, with support from COVIDaction. A formal open data policy from the Ministry of Health is essential for effective data sharing and ensuring accuracy; without it, efforts may be duplicated and inefficiencies might occur. To tackle these issues, the project promotes a semi-formal data collaborative aimed at improving geospatial data sharing and addressing existing gaps. Key activities include stakeholder engagement and the integration of quality data, focusing on areas such as maternal and child health, emergencies, vaccination/immunization, health promotion, and more.
