Summary
MHealth ZATO is a community data aggregation and transmission system launched in January 2022 as part of Burkina Faso's E-Santé.Com strategy. It is essential for the collection and transfer of health data generated by Community-Based Health Workers (CBHWs). This system collects data via the ESANTECOM application on cell phones, processes and validates it, then automatically transmits it to other national health systems, such as DHIS2 (MHEALTH DHIS2). Developed with the support of the CHISU project, ZATO ensures secure, structured and standardized data sharing, aimed at improving the quality and availability of information for better decision-making. ZATO functions as an interoperability middleware, with a national scope since its operationalization. It uses a proprietary API and is managed by the Information Systems Department (DSI), also supported by the CHISU project. The aim is to strengthen the integration of community data by automating their validation and secure transmission to national systems, to improve decision-making. The health areas concerned include health promotion, maternal and child health, primary healthcare, immunization, as well as communicable and non-communicable diseases, targeting in particular rural populations, pregnant women, children under 5 and women in general.
