This involves several technical and human factors. For instance, the system’s effectiveness hinges on the seamless and error-free API integration with SLUHIS. Any issues with data mapping, network latency, or synchronization during the transfer process can lead to corrupted or duplicate patient records in the national system, undermining its reliability for public health surveillance and individual patient care. Furthermore, data quality assurance (DQA) at the point of capture remains a challenge. Staff may unintentionally input incomplete or incorrect information due to insufficient training, lack of motivation, or technical glitches on their mobile devices, necessitating continuous monitoring and rigorous data validation mechanisms to ensure the information used for evidence-based decision-making is trustworthy. Long-Term Sustainability Challenges - The longevity and operational success of the I-Screen App are threatened by issues surrounding sustainability. Like many national digital health initiatives, the project often relies on initial external funding and technical assistance (such as that provided by the Taiwan ICDF). A critical challenge is securing dedicated, recurring national budgetary allocation to cover the continuous operational costs, including software licensing, necessary hardware replacements, mobile data plans for outreach teams, and regular system maintenance. A related and equally serious challenge is local capacity building for technical support.
