Summary
Since 2010, the Ivorian national cancer program (PNLCa) has trained 600 primary care and pediatric physicians in cancer detection, although effective referrals to oncology specialists continue to be a challenge. Patients often face long travel distances to access the two public pediatric oncology wards in Abidjan. To improve communication, instant messaging via WhatsApp is currently used between physicians and oncologists. A new solution introduces a web-based electronic medical record system that streamlines referrals, enabling primary care physicians to directly refer patients to oncology teams with the support of artificial intelligence. This platform also allows remote specialists to review anonymized cases, aiming to enhance cancer screening, early detection, and survival rates while addressing financial and technical barriers to healthcare access.
