Summary
This study aims to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a three-session, nurse-delivered telehealth intervention designed to reduce suicidality and enhance HIV care engagement among adults living with HIV (PLWH) in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. Suicidal behavior is a significant concern for PLWH globally, exacerbated by mental health disorders that hinder HIV treatment engagement and adversely affect quality of life, increasing both transmission risks and mortality rates. Providing targeted mental health support through telehealth counseling presents a promising, cost-effective solution in low-resource environments like Tanzania, allowing for efficient service delivery. The training objectives include developing expertise in clinical models for addressing suicidal ideation in PLWH, acquiring skills in the evaluation of mental health interventions through clinical trials, leading translational research in limited-resource settings, and mastering telehealth treatment adaptation.
