The regional project "Improving Mother and Child Health in Central Asia", implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Government aims to enhance the quality of women-centered primary healthcare services for pregnant women, mothers, and newborns in rural Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. It focuses on empowering female healthcare leaders, improving clinical quality, and enhancing the skills of frontline healthcare workers in remote areas. A significant innovation of this project is the adaptation of the Safe Delivery App (SDA) to national standards and languages of the three countries. SDA is a digital tool developed by the Maternity Foundation (Denmark), which aligns with WHO recommendations. This app offers vital information on antenatal care, childbirth, obstetric emergencies, postpartum care, and neonatal care through accessible animated videos and resources, tailored to local standards and available offline. The project has trained 240 female healthcare workers to serve as trainers, integrated SDA into medical education, and established Communities of Practice to promote cross-country learning and capacity building. These efforts aim to improve clinical decision-making and accelerate the delivery of quality health services, thereby reducing maternal and newborn mortality in the region. Key focus areas include Sexual and Reproductive Health, Maternal and Child Health, Health Promotion, Primary Health Care, and Emergencies, targeting healthcare professionals and structures.
