The Mobile Palliative Care Link (mPCL) aims to address the significant palliative care gap for cancer patients in low-resource areas like sub-Saharan Africa, where cancer mortality rates are alarmingly high. With approximately 500,000 cancer deaths annually in the region and forecasts indicating rising numbers by 2030, mPCL offers an affordable mobile app designed to enhance access to patient-centered symptom assessment and management. This application enables effective communication among palliative care specialists, patients, and local healthcare workers, primarily focusing on pain management through automated reporting of symptoms. Initial pilot tests conducted at the Ocean Road Cancer Institute in Tanzania yielded promising outcomes. There are plans to broaden the reach of mPCL to rural communities and explore its application for other chronic diseases. The primary health focus is on cancer.
