In Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, vaccination efforts are centered on vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and individuals with health issues, given the country's notably low Covid-19 vaccination rate of just 1.74% as of November 2021. Despite receiving approximately 1.5 million vaccine doses, mass vaccination commenced only on August 3, 2021, with the objective of vaccinating 60% of the population. Challenges hindering vaccination uptake include misinformation, accessibility problems, and limited outreach initiatives. OpenMap Development Tanzania (OMDTZ) is working to enhance the national vaccination campaign by leveraging its expertise in geospatial mapping and community engagement, aiming to strengthen public health initiatives in partnership with local healthcare facilities, particularly focusing on communicable diseases.
