The Pharmacy Stock Management (PSM) project offers a digital, real-time solution for managing pharmaceutical inventories in ICRC-supported healthcare facilities. By utilizing a mobile DHIS2 app that functions offline and syncs online, PSM replaces traditional paper-based reporting, ensuring real-time visibility of medicine stock levels and trends, even in remote areas. This innovation has significantly improved stock reporting times, eliminated stock-outs and expiries, and enhanced ordering accuracy through integration with tools like IRIS and Tableau. PSM empowers health professionals, including pharmacists and storekeepers, to make informed, data-driven decisions for efficient replenishment planning, thus ensuring the availability of essential medications. Initially developed by the ICRC, the project has been shared with the global DHIS2 community as the Real-Time Stock (RTS) module, promoting sustainability and collaboration in health supply management. Additionally, PSM contributes to lowering carbon emissions by minimizing travel and paperwork, aligning with the ICRC’s climate resilience objectives. The targeted beneficiaries of PSM include health professionals in both rural and urban settings, focusing on emergency responsiveness and improved pharmaceutical management of both primary health care facilities or hospitals.
