Safe blood is essential for addressing critical health issues such as postpartum hemorrhage and severe anemia. The Blood Services Support Program (BSSP) has developed the Blood Services Information System (BSIS), an open-source platform designed to manage donor and donation data throughout the donation and transfusion process. Geared towards resource-limited blood services, BSIS facilitates the achievement of AfSBT accreditation and adheres to international best practices. Its implementation seeks to strengthen local capabilities for utilizing, managing, and maintaining the system within blood services. Key health focus areas include emergencies, maternal and child health, communicable diseases, and injuries.
