Summary
Mama Space is a digital health platform aimed at supporting women through pregnancy, childbirth, and early motherhood by providing evidence-based information and expert-reviewed educational materials. Addressing the deficit of reliable maternal health resources in Central Asia, Mama Space enhances health literacy, emotional well-being, and empowers women to make informed choices during pregnancy and postpartum recovery. By leveraging technology, AI, medical expertise, and community engagement, the initiative seeks to improve maternal and child health outcomes in the region. The platform aims to expand access to maternal health education by delivering localized, evidence-based content to at least 100,000 women via the Mama Space mobile app by 2026. It ensures inclusivity by offering full functionality in Kyrgyz, Kazakh, and Uzbek languages, catering to women in both urban and rural areas. Additionally, Mama Space strengthens partnerships with healthcare institutions, NGOs, and government bodies to promote maternal health awareness and facilitate data-driven interventions and regional collaboration, targeting pregnant women and new mothers.

Challenges
A major challenge has been overcoming limited digital literacy and resistance to adopting new technologies among women in rural communities. Many users initially lacked trust in mobile health tools or preferred in-person consultations. Another process-related challenge involved establishing collaborations with healthcare institutions, where lengthy administrative procedures and limited awareness of digital innovation slowed progress.
Recommendations
Integrate digital maternal health tools into national strategies. Expand public-private partnerships for broader outreach. Conduct impact studies to assess improvements in maternal health literacy and outcomes. Through these efforts, Mama Space continues to promote scalable, evidence-based maternal support across Central Asia. To address this, Mama Space implemented simplified onboarding, community awareness campaigns, and partnerships with local healthcare professionals to increase confidence and adoption. Ongoing dialogue and transparent data-sharing policies have proven essential in building sustainable partnerships. Contextual factors, including changes in data protection regulations and emerging digital health initiatives in the region, influenced implementation. While compliance requirements increased workload, governmental support for digital transformation and maternal health created favorable conditions for scale-up. Positive influences included the involvement of medical associations, NGOs, and women’s health advocates, which strengthened the credibility and trust of the platform.
