Summary
Village Healthcare Workers (VHW) in Lesotho support the Ministry of Health by managing health-related tasks, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic through awareness campaigns, home quarantine monitoring, and suspected case reporting. Initially using a paper-based system, VHW encountered inefficiencies in data handling and reporting. To improve this, the UNDP Lesotho Accelerator Lab implemented a new system that collects and transmits COVID-19 data in real-time to healthcare facilities and authorities, enhancing the speed of strategic decision-making. VHW focuses on communicable diseases and other health areas.
