Our Laboratory Information System (iLab) streamlines diagnostic processes through automation in patient registration, analyzer connectivity, result validation, and QR-coded PDF certification. By transitioning from manual, paper-based procedures to fully traceable digital workflows, iLab reduces errors and enhances data integrity. Tailored for the modern healthcare environment, it effectively integrates laboratory data with Medical Information Systems (like Sanarip Clinic) and national health platforms to foster collaborative patient care. By 2027, the goal is to fully digitize the laboratory lifecycle, which includes automating test registration, validation, and reporting; achieving seamless integration with laboratory analyzers and other healthcare systems; implementing 100% QR-verifiable digital certificates; and centralizing laboratory data for real-time dashboards and data-driven management. The primary health focus areas are communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and primary health care, targeting health professionals, general populations, and both rural and urban communities.

Challenges
Deploying the web-based LIS across national sites surfaced both human and technical challenges. On the process side, we managed varied digital literacy levels and initial resistance to change among staff shifting away from legacy workflows. Technically, the primary hurdles involved interfacing with fragmented legacy laboratory analyzers and maintaining seamless web connectivity in areas with unstable infrastructure.
Recommendations
The successful nationwide scale-up of our LIS relied heavily on a stakeholder-first approach and an agile architecture. Engaging lab directors early and securing endorsement from health authorities created a strong policy mandate that accelerated user adoption.
