Summary
Civil registration of vital events, such as births and deaths, is still low in developing countries, despite government mandates. OpenCRVS presents an open-source solution that offers a free alternative to proprietary software, providing essential Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) functions that are lacking in current ICT systems. This initiative aims to aid community health workers in reporting births and deaths while supporting civil registration personnel across various levels, ultimately supplying vital statistics for policymakers. The first phase of implementation commenced in January 2020, with additional rollouts planned for the future, concentrating on health focus areas including maternal and child health, among others.
