The Philippines is experiencing an increasing demand for medical film, primarily driven by vendors and doctors, yet fewer than 20% of its over 1,800 hospitals have implemented Digital Standardization, despite advancements in Health IT protocols like DICOM and HL7. As the Vice-Chair of HL7 with 25 years of experience in DICOM, I observe that the private sector is advocating for digital solutions. A significant challenge is the lack of Health IT education, which is further exacerbated by insufficient budget allocation. To address these issues, we propose establishing a centralized warehouse for medical films from various hospitals to digitize them as needed, especially for pre-operative surgeries, diagnostic imaging comparisons, and to facilitate Health Information Exchange, focusing on emergency health care.
