Summary
Our innovative tool predicts tuberculosis (TB) risks for household contacts of adults with pulmonary TB by utilizing easily accessible clinical and demographic data. It features a prescreening test through WhatsApp, which is integrated with an electronic medical record system, and is followed by confirmatory testing at TB clinics for immediate treatment. This model seeks to bridge the significant TB detection gap in Nigeria, where only 25.8% of expected cases were reported in 2017. Key challenges include diagnosis delays, the lack of digital monitoring tools, and inadequate healthcare pathways. By improving TB diagnosis, we can promptly identify and treat at-risk contacts, thereby enhancing preventive care and mitigating transmission risks. The health focus areas encompass non-communicable diseases (NCDs), mental health, and communicable diseases.
