The AIM Health Plus project, supported by Irish Aid, aims to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality while improving child survival and nutrition in four African countries, with a strong emphasis on behavior change at the household level. In the Busia district of Uganda, the project has integrated digital health since 2017 by equipping village health teams (VHTs) with smartphones that utilize Dimagi’s CommCare application. This tool helps VHTs provide health and nutrition education to pregnant women and caregivers of children under two through Timed and Targeted Counselling (ttC). So far, 480 VHTs have actively used CommCare, aided by solar charging kits for their devices, which facilitates efficient data collection and enables integration with DHIS2 for real-time access to community health information. The project covers various health focus areas, including vaccination and immunization, maternal and child health, chronic conditions and disabilities, sexual and reproductive health, communicable diseases, and health promotion.
