The eLMIS in Zambia is an upgraded inventory management system (version 2.x) designed to track and manage medicines, medical supplies, and equipment throughout the supply chain. It enhances transparency, efficiency, and accountability, allowing health facilities to manage their inventories, track dispensation, and create replenishment orders. Additionally, the system includes an equipment module for monitoring medical equipment maintenance and functionality. It integrates with the national Electronic Health Record (SMARTCARE), the National Data Warehouse, and the Warehouse Management System (WHxPERT), which is set to roll out in September 2024. The Central Edition of eLMIS consolidates and approves monthly orders before dispatch, while the Facility Edition is already operational in 1,700 high-volume facilities, with plans to expand to over 3,000 across Zambia. The system manages all health commodities except vaccines and supports a variety of health focus areas, including skin diseases, maternal and child health, communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, and mental health, among others.
