Summary
The WHO's Global Strategic Plan seeks to eliminate rabies by 2030, highlighting its nearly 100% mortality rate. In Bangladesh, reported rabies cases have significantly decreased from over 2,000 annually to under 100 between 2011 and 2022. Roaming dogs have been identified as a major factor in both the transmission of the disease and related social challenges. To address this, a Mass Dog Vaccination program has successfully administered around 2.7 million vaccine doses. Additionally, animal bite management and vaccination services have been implemented in 338 Upazilas across 40 districts. Supported by various stakeholders and driven by a One Health approach, this initiative aspires to achieve a rabies-free Bangladesh by 2030, focusing on communicable diseases.
