DHIS2 is a customizable, modular web-based software designed to address Bhutan's health information needs. Developed with free and open source Java frameworks, it is available at no cost under the BSD license and requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE 7 or higher). This software is part of a global development effort by the Health Information Systems Program (HISP), with contributions from international developers. In Bhutan, the District Health Information System was launched on May 20, 2014, with support from WHO and development outsourced to HISP India, coordinated by the University of Oslo and funded by NORAD and other donors. Key health focus areas include non-communicable diseases, vaccination and immunization, maternal and child health, injuries, health promotion, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, environmental health, communicable diseases, and other chronic conditions and disabilities.
