The E-health Toolkit project introduces an advanced toolkit combining point-of-care (POC) diagnostics with electronic clinical decision support algorithms (CDSAs), designed according to the rigorous standards of the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) and the World Health Organization (WHO). This toolkit empowers primary care health workers in resource-limited settings to accurately diagnose and manage febrile illnesses in children. By integrating validated POC results and robust CDSAs into daily clinical practice, the toolkit ensures that health workers make informed treatment decisions, optimizing care and enhancing patient outcomes.
The project, running from October 10, 2019, to March 31, 2021 in Burkina Faso operations in primary healthcare. It targets the management of diseases such as dengue and malaria, as well as the integrated management of newborn and childhood infections (IMNCI). The initiative aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment decisions among community health workers by providing an integrated toolkit, developed with minimal and optimal criteria for effective management of childhood fevers in resource-limited settings.
Funded by the Botnar Foundation, the Global Antimicrobial Resistance Innovation Fund, and UK Aid Direct, the project leverages qualitative evidence to support its implementation. The toolkit helps optimize patient care and outcomes by enabling healthcare workers to make informed therapeutic decisions.
