Summary
Burkina Faso has implemented a One Health (OH) system that includes three specialized DHIS2 electronic disease surveillance platforms for its Ministry of Health, Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries, and Ministry of Environment. Each ministry operates its own database, monitoring a variety of diseases along with a shared core set. A fourth database consolidates real-time data from these ministries and features an interoperability layer that streamlines the entry of reported, suspected, and confirmed cases. During outbreaks, the system sends email and text alerts. Additionally, this electronic framework functions as the national COVID-19 data collection platform and employs mobile tablets for data collection throughout the country, focusing on communicable diseases, environmental health, and other health areas.
